Church Revitalization is a topic that is vital to all of us. Researchers say over 82% of American churches are in decline or on a plateau. Approximately 900 Southern Baptist Convention (SBC) churches close their doors each year. Tom Cheyney, DOM of the Greater Orlando Baptist Association, and host of the revitalization ministry, Renovate, |
reports that only 6.8% of SBC churches are healthy and growing. That is only 3,087 churches out of over 45,000!
Our Southside Baptist Network is seeking to be proactive to come alongside our churches and help them any way we can. For example, Tim Conort, Pastor of Union Baptist, Griffin, chairs a new Associational Church Revitalization Team. In addition, on Saturday morning, September 20, 2014, our annual Church Strengthening Conference will feature George Yates as the Keynote Speaker. The theme of the Conference is based on his book, Reaching the Summit: Avoiding and Reversing Decline in the Church. George will lead breakout sessions all morning fleshing out that theme. Other pastors and churches are welcome to join us at Hampton FBC on September 20, from 8:30am-12:30pm. Save the date!
